Before You Release Your Next Contractor Payment in Ghana

A practical way for property owners in Ghana to compare a payment request with visible progress before money leaves the account.

A professional reviewing construction progress on site

01

A payment request is not independent evidence

Construction payments are often tied to milestones: foundations completed, walls raised, roofing started, or finishes delivered. The difficulty is that the person asking for payment may also be the person describing whether the milestone is complete.

A WhatsApp update can show activity without showing the complete picture. This matters across Accra, Tema, Kumasi, Takoradi, and other growing communities. The images may not reveal unfinished areas, substituted materials, poor workmanship, or work that has been counted twice.

02

Use three questions before the transfer

Before releasing the next amount, compare the request with the agreed scope and the visible condition of the site.

  • What work was supposed to be complete at this milestone?
  • What work can an independent person actually see and record?
  • Does the evidence support the amount and timing of the request?

03

The purpose is clarity, not conflict

An independent visit does not have to become an accusation against the contractor. Its value is that the owner, contractor, and decision-maker can work from one dated record instead of three different descriptions.

For owners living outside Ghana, this record is especially useful. It gives you a clearer basis for a conversation about what is done, what remains, and what should happen next.

Before you pay for the next milestone in Ghana, verify the milestone first.

Turn the question into a clear request.

Arrange a progress verification

This guide is general information, not legal, surveying, engineering, valuation, or financial advice. Trustline Builds records the scope of a requested service and the observations made within that scope; it does not replace a specialist where one is required.
